Normally you can not. I am sure that there is a way that the plastic could be recycled, but many recyclers do not want I've seen, because the plastic in these things can be many different types and are often not the correct thickness to be recycled with other plastics. Often recyclers ask only for a certain type of plastic products, usually soda or water bottles. The reason is that these bottles are almost always the same type and thickness of plastic. The bottles are then strips down into small chips that can be processed to make new plastic products. However, when other plastics get into the mix that make the mixture uneven and unusable. Ask your local recycling company to see what types of plastics that can be taken. If they say they only have, for example, plastic bottles, just put these items in the trash. When other plastics are thrown into the mix, which can not be sold to the recycling plant manufacturers and are often sent landfill anyway at the expense of the recycling company. So do your local recyclers a favor and put what they want in the containers.
